Clove Tea

Nov. 27, 2019

Drinking clove tea is an invigorating and delicious way to boost your nutrient intake and naturally treat certain health conditions.

Clove tea is an herbal tea brewed from the dried and ground flower buds of the Syzygium aromaticum tree.  These dried cloves have a spicy, pungent flavor that makes them very popular as an ingredient in desserts and baked goods, as well as in savory meals. The cloves themselves are a rich source of eugenol, a powerful antioxidant, as well as other nutrients and vitamins, such as vitamin C, flavonoids, fiber, calcium and certain omega-3 fatty acids. These cloves have been brewed into a tea for centuries and is used in many medical traditions.

The primary benefits of clove tea include its ability to improve digestion, relieve constipation, lower fevers, clear up skin infections, and speed weight loss efforts among others.

When you drink this tea, it can increase the production of both saliva and gastric juices, both of which are necessary for efficient digestion. This can speed peristaltic motion and lower your risk of experiencing constipation or inflammation in the gut.

In traditional Chinese medicine, cloves have pungent and warm properties, and are associated with the Spleen, Stomach and Kidney meridians. Its functions are to dispel cold, warm the middle burner, push rebellious stomach qi downward, and warm kidney yang. Among the conditions treated by cloves are hiccoughs, poor appetite, nausea, diarrhea, weakness and paresthesia in the lower limbs, and impotence.
