How to improve the germination rate of Chinese herbal medicines?

Jan 15, 2019

Traditional Chinese medicine is a very hot planting project, because with the urbanization, rural construction and other factors, wild Chinese medicine resources are becoming less and less.

Licorice: Propagate with seeds and rhizomes. Seed reproduction, selection of mature fruit, crushing the peel, then select full seeds. Spring sowing before germination, soak in warm water for 4 to 6 hours, then put it in warm water twice a day, wash it with clean water, and then sow when the buds germinate. Seed per mu is about 2.5 kg.

Astragalus membranaceus: Spring, summer and autumn sown seeds should be treated. Select the full seeds, rub the seeds with sand before sowing, slightly damage the seed coat, then pour the seeds into 30 ~40 ~C water, soak for 2~4 hours, and then fish out some seeds after expanding.

Angelica dahurica: sown from early September to early October. The seeds of that year must be used for transplanting in the next spring. Before sowing, soak seeds in warm water at about 20 C for 12 hours, then salvage them, spread them on a mat with wet cloth, cover them with a layer of wet cloth, and then germinate in the warm dark of the room, and sow some seeds when they are exposed to white.

Atractylodes macrocephala: sowing from mid-March to early May. Before sowing, seeds were soaked in warm water at 25-30 C for 24 hours, which stimulated the seeds to absorb water and germinate, and then sowed when the radicle was exposed to white. About 5 kg seeds per mu.

Achyranthes bidentata: sown from late June to early July. Soak seeds in 20% warm water for 12 hours before sowing. Remove them and air them slightly. Sow seeds after drying. Generally, germinate in 3 days and emerge in 8 days. About 2 kg seeds per mu.

Eucommia ulmoides: sown in autumn and winter from late October to mid-December, and in spring from mid-February to mid-April. In autumn and winter sowing, fresh seeds can be soaked in warm water for 2 to 3 days, and then sown after being salvaged and dried. Spring sowing is rich in gum, which affects water absorption, long germination time and low germination rate. Therefore, after seed harvest, wet sand stratification treatment (one seed, three layers of fine sand) should be carried out before sowing. After 15 to 20 days, seeds can be sown and nursed when they are exposed to white, and transplanted in the field. According to the experiment, the germination rate of untreated seeds is only 20%-40%, while that of treated seeds can be increased to 80%-90%. Others cut the Samara and take out the seeds to sow. They sow for 25 to 30 days at the average temperature of 18 to 19 degrees centigrade. The seedling emergence rate can reach 88%, and the seed used per mu is about 5 kg.

There are many kinds of Chinese herbal medicines, and each kind of planting method and seedling raising method is different. The above is the common pre-sowing treatment method of Chinese herbal medicines seeds. Every grower should learn quickly for the high germination rate of Chinese herbal medicines you planted.
